Fun and creative public places in the city Rotterdam [PHOTOS]

Armed with my camera and my bicycle, I dive into the city Rotterdam. I made cool snaps of creative ideas or places where it just looks nice or you can simple relax and enjoy the surroundings. Looking for fun things in Rotterdam? I’ll take you somewhere…

I start in the South of Rotterdam. This is the African Market. Every Wednesday and Saturday you can score bargains like six mangoes for only €2,-. Find it in the Pretorialaan.

This is Katendrecht, the creative pier. An island neightbour where you can do some shopping from time to time in the Fenix Loodsen at a market called Swan Market. Through artists this part of Rotterdam is incredibly creative and the environment will be rewarding for a lunch.

Isn’t this contrast? This is the so called Wilhelminapier, right next to the Erasmus Bridge. The pier where you can watch a nice movie and attend parties. It is fascinating that the pier provides a great view of Rotterdam now and then.

If we are to cross the Maas (the Rotterdam river), we do it equally well. No Erasmus Bridge, which is already packed with tourists. We dive into the underground into the so called Maastunnel. Here you can experience raw Rotterdam from back in the days. Tip: cycle through this tunnel!

I cycle in the direction of the Central Station. Near the Central Station I cross the Kruisplein. Here I see only some green at the Ontbijtbar. The Ontbijtbar where you can have breakfast and coffee for 2/3 of the price at the station itself!

Belly is full, I’m going back towards the river. Ever heard of a park of more than a mile long? Rotterdam has it! The new Dakpark is nearly finished and is located  in Delfshaven. Relax in a green environment in a concrete city.

If I go back towards the center then I stop at the Tuin aan de Maas. This is a garden located at the Mullerpier. This garden was created through creative citizens who felt that a piece of grass could be much better than only grass. Take your seeds with you and grow your fresh vegetables.

Isn’t this great? A concrete city gets a lot of color with this initiatives. This is in the opposite of the Maritime Museum at the Schiedamsedijk. Unfortunately for the skaters among us, but I encourage the creative (female) gender to do this more: guerrilla knitting!

The Witte de Withstraat is booming nowadays. You see it not directly from the street, but secretly this is the most creative place for a nightcap. Walk just around the bend, in the Boomgaardstraat  and you will find Rotterdams most recent acquisition called the  Wunderbar. This place is recyled 110%.
